How to Wear Ihram Properly: Complete Guide for Men and Women

Ihram for Men| Steps to Wear Ihram 

Ihram for men consists of two pieces of cloth. Pilgrims should follow a way to wear Ihram, such as by unfolding one of the clothes known as Izhar for the lower body.

  • Hold the cloth behind your back, then wrap it around your chest. 
  • Wrap the other side of the cloth around your body. 
  • Ensure that your feet are uncovered. Now fold down the cloth in such a manner that your naval is covered. Now fasten the clip around that cloth at the navel to avoid slipping off. 
  • Now, take another piece of cloth known as Rida and hold it horizontally. 
  • Cover the left side of your shoulder with the right side of Rida. It is obligatory to keep your left shoulder uncovered during the Tawaf. 
  • The shoes or sandals that you are combining with your Ihram must expose your ankles and the tops of your toes. 
  • For men, it is obligatory to keep the face and head uncovered.
  • Men are prohibited from wearing stitched clothing, underwear, or socks. 

Ihram for Women | Steps to Wear Ihram

Women should wear loose fitted and stitched clothes in the Ihram. Usually, women wear Abaya as Ihram. Women choose to wear while cloth to cover their body as Ihram, it depends on the choice of Muslim sister pilgrims. Women are allowed to keep their faces uncovered. Women take one piece of cloth to cover their lower body. And they can use another piece of cloth to drape over their faces. Some choose to wear pre-made clothes with a hole in their face.

Packing Essentials Clothing for Umrah

For Men:

  • The Umrah travelers should mainly focus on wearing modest daily wear. It includes 2-3 sets of loose and comfortable clothing, like shalwar Qameez.
